Newsletter #4: Because the children are our future

If you caught my LinkedIn post yesterday, then you saw the inspiration story for this newsletter.

I was going to write about something else but I pushed that out for a few weeks just because this topic was so very timely for me and I thought it might be for others as well.

The short story is that I had to cut a comb out of our daughter's hair early yesterday morning (before I even had my coffee) because she had gotten it crazy stuck.

It got me thinking about all of the support that parents could use in raising kids. It's not always health-related, but when it is, where do they turn? What health tech solutions are popping up out there that solve real pain points both for kids and their parents?

It turns out there are a ton, but I've highlighted 3 companies below that I think are worth checking out. They all solve very different needs, showing the vast potential of the digital health space to touch so many lives.

I also found some interesting job openings at two of the companies. I've really been enjoying finding unique job postings for this newsletter community and have something really exciting in the works on that front, so stay tuned!

1. Blueberry

This one was introduced to me by a coworker who is a very happy customer.

What they do: On-demand telehealth for kids.

Why it matters: For $20 a month, you get telehealth services for all of the children in your household with no additional fees. Blueberry pediatricians are available 24/7 and will connect with you within minutes. This improves the traditional process of calling your pediatrician after hours, waiting for a callback, then waiting again for an appointment slot in the morning, and paying your copay.

2. Huckleberry

Ok, I promise this isn't just about companies with berry-inspired names but like come on, I had to include this cute name too!

What they do: According to their website, "Huckleberry pairs pediatric sleep experts with AI to create a custom sleep plan with your unique family in mind."

Why it matters: First of all Artificial Intelligence (AI) is everywhere right now and it's always interesting to hear about a new application. But also what parent wouldn't pay a company ALL THE MONEY to help get their child to sleep? We're past this stage with our kids, but this type of service is worth its weight in gold!

3. Endeavor Rx

Endeavor Rx is the flagship product of company Akili Interactive.

What they do: This is a digital therapeutic product, and is the only doctor-prescribed video game for the treatment of ADHD in kids.

Why it matters: Parents of kids with ADHD often lack the tools that they need to understand how to best support their child's needs. Having a tool like this that can be used in the home is amazing. Not to mention that the digital therapeutics space is really interesting.

I hope you found these as interesting as I did! I'd love to hear about any others that you know about that are changing the peds game
